Aluminium Foils

When sheet in coil form is rolled to below 200 microns, it is called foil. Aluminium foil can be as thin as five microns but normally bulk usage is seven microns upwards. The thicker gauges (100 microns upwards) are used for industrial applications such as cable wrapping and air conditioner finstock. Thicker gauge packaging is mainly used for applications like pilfer-proof bottles and taggers (inner diaphragms of tin containers).

The medium gauges are used by the pharmaceutical industry and thinner gauges up to seven microns are used for lamination purposes with paper, polythene or any other substrate. Kitchen foil and semi-rigid containers are normally used for food packaging.

Aluminum’s excellent barrier properties give it a great advantage over many other flexible and rigid materials. A very thin layer of aluminum foil - only 6.35 microns in some cases- can render a packaging laminate completely light-proof and liquid-tight. There are many different applications, each making slightly different demands which are met by Alufoil in the form of flexible packaging.

Aluminum’s essential properties can be seen below:
• Heat conductivity
• Strength
• Hygiene
• Impermeability
• Dead fold - it stays wrapped around food items without needing further sealing
• Non-toxicity and corrosion resistance
